Lawrence (Larry) Stern is the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Talecris Biotherapeutics. Mr. Stern joined Talecris in April 2005 from Cerberus Capital Management, where he led the evaluation and plan resulting in the contribution of assets of the plasma portion of Bayer Biological Products to Talecris Biotherapeutics.
Mr. Stern joined Bayer Corporation as the President of its Urethanes group in 2000 upon Bayer's $2.5 billion acquisition of Lyondell Chemical's polyol business. Mr. Stern successfully completed a complex, multi-national integration with diverse cultural perspectives and business practices. He led significant restructurings including consolidation of manufacturing plants and R&D facilities, while simultaneously improving operational reliability.
Mr. Stern has a passion for Operational Excellence, and has led dramatic improvements in cost, safety, and environmental performance throughout his career.
Mr. Stern received his B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Cornell University in 1979. He completed his M.S. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a thesis on Fluidized Bed Coal Combustion in 1981.
