Immune Deficiency Foundation Launches Free Electronic Newsletter
The "Primary Immune Tribune" provides in-depth, up-to-date information for the primary immune deficiency community
TOWSON, MD., and RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. (Oct. 9, 2006) – The Immune Deficiency Foundation (IDF) announced today the launch of an electronic newsletter that will provide important disease state and support information for the immune deficiency community. The electronic newsletter, the Primary Immune Tribune, will be delivered on a monthly basis to patients, caregivers, and professionals who comprise the community. Talecris Biotherapeutics, a leading manufacturer of liquid immune globulin intravenous (IGIV) therapy used to treat primary immune deficiency, is the exclusive supporter of the newsletter through a grant to the IDF, allowing the subscription newsletter to be available to the community for free.
The Primary Immune Tribune will provide information on a monthly basis that advances the IDF's mission to improving the diagnosis and treatment of patients with primary immune deficiency. Through the newsletter, the immune deficiency community will receive important, new information about resources, activities, and programs, and will help answer questions and provide quality educational information for patients and their families.
Marcia Boyle, IDF president and board chairman, said, "The IDF strives to make sure we are providing important information and services for our constituency. The Primary Immune Tribune, made possible through an educational grant from Talecris, will be an important tool helping us achieve this goal."
The first edition of the newsletter, distributed in early October, contains information about family retreats held and upcoming in 2006. These retreats feature physicians and other experts who provide useful educational information related to treatment, reimbursement, and overall life management issues. Also included in the inaugural edition is a volunteer activity update about the important "Hanging up Blue Jeans for Healthy Genes" program held at plasma donation centers. The program is an important fund-raiser, and increases awareness among plasma donors about the importance of their donations. A calendar of events and other news will also be routinely provided through the newsletter.
"We believe the information in the Primary Immune Tribune will help keep our patients and families informed and connected," said Ms. Boyle. "We also want to have a dialogue with the community about what they want to gain from the newsletter and look forward to hearing comments, questions, and requests." To receive a free subscription of Primary Immune Tribune, please send a request to enewsletter@primaryimmune.org.
"Talecris Biotherapeutics is extremely proud to be associated with such an important new informational tool," said Alberto Martinez, M.D., President and CEO of Talecris Biotherapeutics. "As an industry leader with a long history of commitment to the primary immune deficiencies, Talecris recognizes the importance of collaborations, such as this one with IDF, that improve education and awareness to advance patient care. Talecris will remain a strong corporate citizen committed to these types of partnerships with the patient community."

About the Immune Deficiency Foundation The Immune Deficiency Foundation (IDF), founded in 1980, is the national nonprofit health organization dedicated to improving the diagnosis and treatment of primary immune deficiency diseases through research, education and advocacy. There are more than 50,000 people in the United States who have a primary immune deficiency disease. These individuals often find it difficult to receive specialized healthcare, proper diagnosis and treatment. Individuals affected by primary immune deficiency diseases also experience difficulties financing their healthcare, finding educational materials on the disease, and locating others with whom to share their experiences. The goal of IDF is to help individuals overcome these difficulties and live a healthy and productive life. For more information about the IDF or the IVIG reimbursement reform summit group, visit www.primaryimmune.org or call IDF at 1-800-296-4433. To be included in the distribution list of Primary Immune Tribune, please send a request to enewsletter@primaryimmune.org.
