Talecris Biotherapeutics Announces Global Expansion
Establishment of Talecris in Canada on the Company's one-year anniversary affirms global vision
RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C., Monday, April 3, 2006 – Talecris Biotherapeutics, Inc., a leading biological products and biotech company, announced today the establishment of Talecris Biotherapeutics, Ltd. in Canada as a significant first achievement in the company's global expansion plan. This milestone announcement occurs as Talecris celebrates its one-year anniversary, completing a successful initial year in which financial and operational performance goals were exceeded.
The establishment of Talecris in Canada, with headquarters in Toronto and an additional office in Ottawa, builds on its strong presence with existing Canadian-based customers. Canadian Blood Services and Héma-Québec have chosen Talecris to continue delivering on a 60-year legacy established by its predecessor, Bayer HealthCare. As demonstrated successfully in its first year in the U.S., Talecris will continue to provide customers the same products and services, supported by the same professionals who understand the needs of the Canadian marketplace.
"We have worked closely with Talecris as they prepared to establish their Canadian entity," said Dr. Graham Sher, CEO, Canadian Blood Services, "and we are confident that they are strong partners for Canadian Blood Services in ensuring a safe, secure, sustainable supply of plasma protein products for Canada."
"Expanding our presence to Canada underscores our ability to achieve an important milestone in an essential market consistent with our global expansion vision," said Alberto Martinez, M.D., President and CEO of Talecris. "Further, and most importantly, it represents our continuing commitment to provide critical care protein therapies to the patient communities we serve in Canada."
Commenting on Talecris' commitment to the Canadian patient community, Canadian Immunodeficiency Society's Executive Director, Richard Thompson said "The Canadian Immunodeficiency Society is proud to have Talecris as a partner in our goal to improve the lives of children, youth and adults with Primary Immune Deficiency through patient support, education, research and networks."
Talecris marked its first anniversary with significant growth including the addition of more than 200 employees, and 2005 revenues of approximately $1 billion. With a broad portfolio of valuable existing products and an ever-expanding R&D pipeline, Talecris is committed to establishing new standards of care through infrastructure improvements that will enhance the company's commitment to customer service and scientific advancement.
