On April 18, 2007, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) issued new Q-Codes for IGIV Liquid products that went into effect on July 1, 2007.
The new code for Gamunex (Immune Globulin Intravenous [Human], 10% Caprylate/Chromatography Purified,) effective July 1, 2007, is: Gamunex – Q-4092 (INJECTION, IMMUNE GLOBULIN, (GAMUNEX), INTRAVENOUS, NON-LYOPHILIZED, (E.G. LIQUID), 500 MG).
The HCPCS code changes for IGIV appear to be the first changes resulting from the agency’s announcement in February of 2007 that it would conduct a review to ensure that it is treating drugs and biologicals appropriately under the ASP statute.
The new code (Q-4092) can be used immediately for billing Gamunex. Private payor adoption rate of the new Q code varies from payor to payor. It is therefore suggested that you check with them to determine if they have adopted the new Q code in their system before billing for Gamunex using the new code.
